Fly fishing line

Anglers have so much to worry about when selecting the right fly, but they must also consider the importance of having good fly fishing line. Fly fishing line is attached to the real with a thin string called backing. At the front end of the line the angler attaches the leader and ties the fly there. Without the appropriate line, the fly cannot be presented well to the fish.

Fly fishing line is often brightly colored so fishermen can see the line as it floats. If there is any difference between the lines and the currents, the angler must be ready to set the hook. Waiting a split-second too long could mean the loss of the fish.

You should clean your fly fishing line in the off-season. Dirt and residue can cause your line to sink. Also if you are saltwater fishing, the salt can eat away at the line. If you find your line sinks, you can buy chemicals that are easily applied with a cloth to help the line float.
