Fly fishing flies

Bait fishermen always wonder about fly fishing flies. These intriguing lures are always hand tied. They are crafted to imitate insects that live in or near the water.

There are three types of fly fishing flies for river fishing. The nymph pattern imitates a bug that crawls and swims at the bottom of the river. The dry fly imitates an insect that flies above the river and dies floating on the water. There are also terrestrials that imitate creatures such as ants and grasshoppers.

Before you go fishing, stop in at your local gear store to find out which fly fishing flies are working. What will succeed with one day may be completely ineffective a week later. Keep a log or journal to record what works so that when you return to the river you have your own records to rely on.
